The author is a pastor, not a psychologist. Nevertheless he is a renowned pastor and blessed with good insight. I enjoyed the book and managed to finish it. Though some of it was redundant, and his definition of spiritual depression doesn’t, IMHO, fit the traditional definition of depression, it was an interesting book to read.

I really enjoyed the articulate 1960′s perspective of this gifted pastor. He’s little known in any Christian reading circles that I have ever been in, and gave me great spiritual relief in being able to be free from the bondage of a works mentality and the nagging doubts about the state of my soul based on my behavior. A good soak in the ‘good news’ that Christ died for any sin that I could possibly dream up centuries ago, and there’s nothing I can do or not do to change that except reject His offer of forgiveness. It makes the notion that I know better how to run my life than the Creator of the Universe absurd. It’s like buying a new car and throwing out the owner’s manual, thinking I can figure it all out myself and maintain the car according to my own knowledge and convenience and it’s all going to work out fine. Ridiculous!

As with all Amazon books, the service was great, the book arrived in excellent condition, and I got something I couldn’t have found locally.
